First Friday Arts Event in Indianapolis – May 2009

It’s been two years since Wug Laku’s Studio and Garage (actually, it’s wUG LAKU’S STUDIO & gARAGE — it’s an artist thing. Don’t ask.) opened its doors to the public. I’ve spent more than a year visiting his studio on the first Friday of every month for the IDADA First Friday gallery tour (Indianapolis Downtown Artists & Dealers Association). The studio is part of the Circle City Industrial Complex just NE of Mass Ave. at 1125 Brookside Ave (link to map), which has actually led to some growth and restoration to the 10th St. corridor in Indianapolis.

First Friday is the one night per month that all the art galleries in Indianapolis’ Fountain Square, Downtown, and Mass Ave. feature new artists. The galleries are open from 6 – 9 p.m., and many of them have hors d’oeuvres and wine. (Wug’s place also has an excellent pastry bakery next door that offers wonderful samples during First Friday events.)Waiting There 2 - Dean Road Series by Wug Laku

I’ve seen some of Indy’s best artists and the new up-and-comers hang on Wug’s walls for the entire city to see. And I’ll be there on May 1st, the 2 year anniversary. On that day, art lovers can visit and help celebrate Wug’s two year anniversary, which features a retrospective of some of the artists who have graced his walls since 2007.
