As part of the trip my wife and I took last fall, we visited the small town of Vevay (pronounced vee-vee) in Switzerland County. We stopped at the Visitors Center to get some information about things happening in Vevay and found out about The Ridge Winery. This would be the third winery we would visit over the weekend, but you can never have too much good Indiana wine!
We arrived at The Ridge around mid-day and enjoyed a great tasting hosted by a very knowledgable sommelier. The Ridge’s wines range from very sweet, fruity whites, to dry and complex reds. By the end of the tasting, we decided we just had to pick up a bottle of their blackberry wine. A perfect balance between sweet dessert wine and dry red, the blackberry wine was a great compliment to our Thanksgiving dinner.
Although my wife and I visited Vevay a little late for their annual Swiss Wine Festival, we might be able to get down there for the event this year. Held August 21-24 this year, the event is a late-summer mainstay of Vevay. The first Swiss Wine Festival was held 40 years ago and this year’s festival includes a wine tasting pavilion, grape stomp, riverboad cruises (Vevay is located right on the Ohio River), and live music.
If casinos are more your style, the Belterra Casino, in nearby Florence, is a great bet. Located about an hour from Louisville and Cincinnati and only about two hours from Indianapolis, you’re never far away from a good time at Belterra.
