During the long Independence Day weekend, my wife and I spent Sunday morning hiking at Fort Benjamin Harrison State Park. Located just nine miles from downtown Indianapolis, you’d never know you were so close to the city. Fort Harrison was decommissioned as a military base in 1991 and five years later, became a state park. In addition to the hiking trails, there are even a couple horse-riding trails and a 72-hole Pete Dye-designed golf course.
It’s always nice to find a place so beautiful and peaceful so close to the city. Just a 10 minute drive from our house, when we pulled into the park, we were in a different world.
